Climatological
outlook for the month of August:-
August is the rainiest months for
Delhi with average rainfall of 225.8 mm. However, it does not rain daily even
during this rainiest month. On an average, the city receives rainfall on 15
days. The highest rainfall recorded during the month of August has been 583.3
mm in 1961. The maximum temperatures, on an average, remain around 34ēC. However,
maximum temperatures in the range of 37-38 ēC are not uncommon, particularly
during prolonged absence of rains. On such occasion, sultry weather conditions
prevail over the city.
The western end of monsoon trough
which was much to the south of its normal position during last 4 days of July
is likely to shift to north and remain close to its normal position during first
week of August. Scattered to fairly wide spread rains are likely over northwest
India including Delhi during the first week of August. The rainfall activity,
however, is likely to reduce during the second week
